Looking to fill your mind with beautiful images of fall foliage? We’ve identified some of the best fall festivities to experience while traveling in your coach.
Racing in a Pumpkin Down the River
What if we told you that you could get into a massive pumpkin and use it as a kayak to paddle down the river?
In Stillwater, MN every October they have a pumpkin festival that draws a massive crowd. You’ll find all kinds of fall festivities but the main attraction is the big pumpkin race.
Make sure you visit the Teddy Bear Park just a few blocks away if you have kids or grandkids in tow.
Eat an Oyster Sandwich
Virginia’s largest oyster festival is located in Urbanna on the Chesapeake Bay. The entire town comes together the throw a MASSIVE festival that is designed around oysters. Grab an oyster sandwich or even make friends with an oyster walking down the road while listening to live music. There’s a lot of boondocking available at the festival. Another option is there’s a number of RV Resorts just down the road where you can have waterfront campsites with good fishing. The perfect place to relax after a day of fun-filled activities.
Apple Everything in Pennsylvania
There are many places to go apple picking. But if you’re looking to find unique things like Apple Cotton Candy you might want to head over to Gettysburg in the fall during one of the largest apple festivals in the world. The festival is located in the heart of Pennsylvania Apple country, just a few miles from historic Gettysburg and is within a two hour drive of Washington D.C., Baltimore Md. and Harrisburg Pa.
They have RV Parking available and it gets so packed that they shuttle people in on buses that are constantly running people in and out. Live music and INCREDIBLE food makes this place one of a kind.
Hiking in the Foliage
Fall foliage means hiking trails turn into colorful wonderlands. Find the local foliage report online to know exactly where the foliage is peaking, layer up and head out onto the trail. Keep in mind different areas may vary greatly so plan your trips accordingly. We’ve even seen groups of people calling themselves “Foliage Followers”.
Garlic Festival in California
The Garlic capital of the world is in Gilroy, CA. It’s also a great spot for RVers to take day trips to The Redwoods, the ocean to catch a wave in Santa Cruz, and it’s directly on the wine trail. But for one day a year you won’t want to miss downtown Girloy!
Girloy natives shut the entire town down for a Halloween festival where, believe me, you won’t want to be kissing anybody afterwards. You’ll find an abundance of fresh garlic and to wash it down each of the stops in town has beer for you to drink if you enjoy it. You can participate in a giant beer crawl downtown, or simply enjoy sipping wine as you watch the revelers pass by the windows. Be sure to pick up fresh garlic to use in your recipes back at the RV park.
No matter the weather in the Fall, you'll want to be prepared when you return to your RV to relax after a day of festivities. From bright, sunny days to cooler rainly days, you can relax beneath your Girard awning in comfort. You'll look stylish while relaxing where you can share the ambiance with friends, new and old.
